From Sydney's Shores to a Philly study hall: Andrew Clark's CLFP Exam journey
Written by Andrew Clark
In this article, I wanted to share my experience of pursuing the Certified Lease & Finance Professional (CLFP) designation, the preeminent credential for equipment leasing and financing professionals worldwide. I hoped that by sharing my story, I could inspire and motivate others interested in this field or looking for a new challenge.
I had been working as an independent finance broker for six years, helping businesses find the best solutions for their equipment leasing and financing needs. I loved what I did, but I always wanted to learn more and expand my skills and knowledge. I sought specific training that would help me understand the industry better and serve my clients more effectively.
That's why I decided to apply for the CLFP scholarship, offered by the Institute of Strategic Management (ISM) and endorsed by the Commercial Asset Finance Brokers Association of Australia (CAFBA). Traveling across America to reach the exam venue was a challenge in itself.
Just as I was ready to depart for Philly, unexpected bushfires in New South Wales caused significant delays. This development added an unforeseen challenge to my journey, reminding me of life's unpredictable nature. Nonetheless, I remained undeterred, viewing this as a mere pause, not a full stop, on my path.
Upon arriving in Philly, instead of succumbing to jet lag, I found myself amidst the vibrant energy of a 76ers basketball game. It was a dazzling introduction to the American way of life and a much-needed distraction before the serious business ahead...
